Talkin' 'Bout My Generation
By Colleen O'Brien
April 2009
Freeze checks in with Harvard's BCBGeneration Student Ambassadors Tori Dantono, Ali Occhialini, and Colleen O'Brien.
Freeze College Magazine: What are you girls doing on campus this semester?
Ali: We were hired by BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP as Student Ambassadors for the new brand BCBGeneration. As ambassadors, we're spreading the word about how amazing the clothes and bags are to students at Harvard and in the Boston area.
FCM: How did you become BCBGeneration Student Ambassadors?
Tori: One day I was perusing BCBGeneration.com checking out their latest line and saw they were offering an opportunity to be a student ambassador on campus. I was so excited about the brand and really wanted to bring it to Harvard students—I felt that many girls were having a difficult time transitioning their style from what they wore in high school to a more sophisticated look and that BCBGeneration could help fill that transitional gap. After I was accepted into the program, I helped the BCBGeneration team to recruit two other Harvard fashionistas—Ali and Colleen!
FCM: What's your favorite part of working for BCBGeneration?
Ali: First of all, we all love the clothes! It has been so rewarding working for a brand that we support and believe in as fashion-obsessed college women. Our favorite part of working for BCBGeneration has been the incredibly flexible nature of the program.
Colleen: That's definitely my favorite part of the job—we have so much creative freedom. We had the opportunity to come up with our own marketing plan, and we get to work with student organizations to plan really fun events.
FCM: What are some of your upcoming events?
Ali: In April we will be having an event at Mint Julep in the square with giveaways, food and music—a great opportunity to shop for the perfect garden party dress!
Colleen: We'll also be representing BCBGeneration at the Harvard Vestis Council's Cocktails and Couture and, of course, Eleganza on the 25th.
FCM: Where do you see BCBGeneration fitting into the closets of Harvard students (i.e., going out at night, wearing it to class, etc.)?
Ali: The brand's range of clothing is incredible, from cute sweats and tees to wear to Sunday Brunch in the dining hall to glamorous formal gowns to wear to your House Formal this spring. What is special in particular about this brand is the affordability of the formal and semi-formal dresses. These dresses are affordable enough that you won’t have to raid your roommate’s closet for the fifth time to look gorgeous when you get that Eliot fete or Fly Garden Party invitation.
Tori: We especially love the casual yet detailed short dresses that are perfect to wear to class with tights and boots or out on the weekends with heels. BCBGeneration also has a selection of modern suiting and workwear—perfect for that summer internship or on-campus interview.
FCM: Where can we buy BCBGeneration clothing?
Tori: The Macy's at Downtown Crossing (right on the Red Line) has an enormous selection of BCBGeneration, which is updated monthly. Mint Julep also carries BCBGeneration dresses and is right in the square!
