Do's & Don't's: Sorority Recruitment Fashion

By Maddie Raffel

February 2009

With Harvard's three sororities – Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Kappa Kappa Gamma – holding recruitment from February 8th to 15th, we at Freeze wanted to offer a few easy tips to de-stress the process! For more information, contact greek.recruitment@gmail.com.

Do:

  • Be yourself. The members would rather know you than the latest outfit you ripped out of Vogue! Wear something that stays true to the real you.
  • Keep an open mind. Form your own impressions based on the girls you meet rather than going along with others' opinions.
  • Wear a story. Those gorgeous earrings you found in a Turkish bazaar can be an instant conversation starter!
  • Do your research. While it's not a history paper, you should still check out each sorority's Facebook group and website to see what appeals to you. Remember that sorority reputations can vary from chapter to chapter, so be sure to find one you feel comfortable with at Harvard.
  • Dress in something stylish yet unique. It will help the girls remember you long after you've left!
  • Don't:

  • Be uncomfortable. You'll be spending a lot of time on your feet, and you want to be able to concentrate on the conversation, not on how much your heels are killing you.
  • Be too comfortable. Show the members you care, and leave the DHA's for morning practice!
  • Feel insecure about how you look. Even if you've put on the Freshman 15, slip on a babydoll top or an empire waist dress and ignore any body hang-ups!
  • Forget about the weather. Breaking out the stilettos in ankle-deep snow is not the best (or safest) idea!
  • Be a wallflower. No matter how cute your outfit is, you're not going to impress anyone unless you talk to them!
