What it's good for: A special date night, or a nicer girls' night out in the Square

Truth be known, eating in the Square time and time again can seem as dull as eating in the d-hall every night. Harvest provides a nice (albeit a bit pricey) break from the norm of Harvard Square restaurants. Harvest's cozy atmosphere is complemented by its fireside dining paired with a seasonal menu that incorporates local fare from farmers and fishermen alike. Selections range from safer, more classic tastes to bolder, more eccentric flavors. For starters, you can't go wrong with the Harvest Caesar, but consider opting for more of that local spice that Harvest prides itself on with the other appetizers, such as the Verrill Farms Celery Root and Apple Soup. Moving on to the main course, there are both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, and although the menu is not huge, there are more than enough choices. For fish lovers, the monkfish or the halibut are both interesting, flavorful dishes. All items incorporate a wonderful blend of seasonal ingredients, and it's hard to go wrong with whatever you choose. Last, but as we girls know, certainly not least are the desserts. Sweet treats such as the Roasted Sugar Pumpkin Crème Brulee offer great new twists on classics.
